Does time-restricted eating improve glycemic control in type 2 diabetes?
Trials report modest reductions in HbA1c, with effects varying by eating-window duration12. Continuous glucose monitoring describes lower postprandial excursions3.

Effect of time-restricted eating on glycemic control in type 2 diabetes
1. Reported effect on HbA1c
Across the retrieved trials, restricting the daily eating window is most often reported alongside modest reductions in HbA1c, with effect sizes that vary by window length and by how adherence was measured (Okafor et al., 2023; Lindqvist et al., 2024). A meta-analysis of 18 controlled trials reports a pooled change smaller than the difference typically achieved by first-line pharmacotherapy, and describes substantial heterogeneity between studies (Lindqvist et al., 2024).
2. Postprandial glucose
Continuous glucose monitoring studies describe lower postprandial excursions during shorter windows, though the available samples are small and mostly short in duration (Bianchi et al., 2022). Reviews of adherence report that dropout rises as the eating window narrows (Haddad et al., 2024).
PACR reports what the retrieved sources state. It does not provide clinical guidance.

Discussion — glycemic outcomes
The trials included in this review differ in how the eating window was defined, which complicates direct comparison of glycemic outcomes (Okafor et al., 2023; Lindqvist et al., 2024). Two of the four controlled studies measured adherence through participant diaries alone (Haddad et al., 2024), which the scoping review flags as a limitation.
Every citation stays linked to the source in your library, so a claim can be checked against the paper it came from.
